5Best TV Picture Ever  Aug 01, 2010
We bought this TV in December 2009 after looking endlessly at LCD Tv web reviews and Consumer Reports ratings. We rarely saw a bad review unless it was about the store that sold the TV. A similar 55" tv got excellent reviews on CR reports, so we grabbed it when it went on sale. It is the best TV ever. Once we got it set up how we wanted it with our cable system, we haven't had a problem or complaint. We were going to get a Sony like one a relative has, but I'm so glad we went with this TV because the picture is sooooo much better. I was worried about glare because we have a window directly across the room from our TV, but we have had no problems. We love this TV.

2One glaring flaw - recommend buying a different model  Jun 21, 2010
I did a ton of research before settling on the Samsung LN52B630. Samsung appears to be one of the best-regarded brands for LCDs, so that gave me confidence buying this one. In most areas this TV does fine, but there is one glaring problem that I cannot overlook, and with the state of the technology today, you should not have to do that.

Here is the problem: in MANY scenes, there is an obvious blurred outline around the people as they move or the camera pans. I don't mean during sports or fast-moving scenes. I mean when someone walks across the room. It is extremely distracting to me. This happens on both bluray play and HD satellite, so it is not the source. Maybe it doesn't ruin everything, but the point is that you should be able to get HD-quality picture without fuzziness around the people in the movie. There is simply no excuse for that, and I would absolutely not buy this model again if I had to do it again. I have tried playing extensively with the settings, including the automotion function. That did not fix it (and by the way, I don't think the performance is at all acceptable unless you activate the 120Hz function). Again, it shouldn't take a huge effort to find a way around a blurry outline in a supposedly top-of-the-line HDTV. Very, very disappointing.

Also, about a month after purchasing, the HDMI-1 input stopped working. Very strange. I called Samsung and they sent someone out to replace the circuit board, and that fixed it. I found Samsung to be very responsive and helpful.

The matte screen is very good. You definitely don't want to have bright sunlight directly on the screen, but that is the case on any TV. The matte finish definitely prevents reflection from being a major distraction, so unless you are in a windowless theater room, I think you have to look for a matte screen.

The sound is good, IMO. I use an A/V receiver almost all the time now, but for the first 3-4 months I did not have that set up, and I was more than content with the sound. Its not big movie sound, but nobody can expect that. It sounds just fine for most applications.

Overall, look elsewhere for a 52-inch LCD. This is priced as a premium product, but it doesn't perform that way. ALL HDTVs give you a good picture, but most other ones don't have this blurry outline.

1Don't waster your money  Jun 02, 2010
I purchased this product directly from Amazon & received this television at the end of February.

I was generally happy with it for the 2 months it worked. However, the screen went out on it. I called Amazon customer service & was told they would sent a replacement....after being on hold for 30 minutes while they "processed" my exchange I was tranferred to Amy who told me that everything I had just been told couldn't be more wrong, and that Amazon would do NOTHING to help me and that I should call Samsung.

Nice.
I could've went to KMart, Walmart, Target or ANYWHERE & received more help.

I will NEVER make a major purchase from Amazon again.

5"used" Samsung LN52B630 52" LCD  Apr 05, 2010
Works great! Purchased "used/returned" item - can not find any damage anywhere. Product was delivered to my house. Looks great on my PS3 - crystal clear. Most HD channels broadcast in my area at 60hz 1080i or 720p.

Found the model we wanted at an amazing price on Amazon. Delivery and set up was efficient and on time. Was concerned about buying such an expensive item on the internet, but it was even better than buying from a brick and mortar store -- price and free delivery -- and we didn't have to uncrate it! Haven't played around with any of the features yet, but the TV itself is awesome.

Consumer Reports Says: Buy HDTV at Amazon!

Washington, D.C. (July 2010) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)

The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2009 and June 2010. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its July 2010 issue.)

"
Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."

Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com came closest.
