Amazing Deal for an Amazing TV Jul 29, 2010 First I'd like to address the buzzing noise since this has been the make or break for this TV. Yes there is a slight "hum" when you turn the TV on, but is literally impossible to hear. I sat in so many places trying to hear it and really the only place I could get audible "hum" was immediately in front of the TV or behind it. If you want to know what the "hum" sounds like, turn on an older CRT computer monitor and stick your ear an inch away from the screen. That is it! If you can be completely honest that the decision to get this TV is based solely on this tiny "hum" then you are just unlucky to not experience such a great picture.
Conclusion: The "hum" is insignificant and unless you watch your TV on mute, you will never notice. I definitely would have never noticed if not for I was trying to hear for it and worked to hear it. Nobody in my house knows about it and that's 5 people who watch the TV and have never heard a "hum."
The picture is exceptional! The blacks are very deep and the colors are rich. Motion (NHL, NFL, NBA, MLB, Racing) all look amazing with absolutely no motion-blur. Furthermore, the color accuracy is dead-on. Watching movies with a lot of fast motion with a contrasting background often shows the problem with color accuracy but not the case here. Crisp lines and more importantly great contrast even at low levels. My only caveat is the initial factory settings. The sharpness was WAY too high! Also the burn-in protection was not set to on so that needed to be changed. Very minor issues that are all fixable very quickly.
Conclusion: Technically exceptional picture with very little (and quickly resolved) image retention and ZERO burn-in.
All in all this is a great TV with an exceptional list of features. I would recommend it to literally anyone. There are zero true cons with the TV and only little things like factory settings that can be changed. The "hum" is insignificant and is definitely a normal sound heard from properly working monitors.
Absolutely Stunning Picture Jul 28, 2010 This is easily one of the best TVs I have laid eyes on. The picture quality is absolutely gorgeous. Here's the thing, I fully understand that there are plenty of sets out there with popping, vibrant colors. That's not my cup of tea. I want realistic colors, not over-saturated cartoony tones. I have in fact seen better black levels (Panasonic Viera), but by no means is this Samsung's levels unacceptable.
I have also had the buzzing issue with my initial set. However, that was not the reason I returned it. I had a 50" version that had a bad component connection. The buzzing was minor when the volume was up. I guess some people just get too annoyed with it. My current set buzzes a lot less. In fact, I found out that plugging it into a surge protector rather than directly into the outlet completely got rid of the buzzing altogether.
Another minor gripe I have is image retention. Though, every plasma is prone to image retention. I didn't break mine in before watching stations with static logos. I can't even tell it's there anyway unless I turn off all my lights and switch to a completely black screen and go close to the TV to look at it. And even then, I have a warranty on this beauty. I don't regret my purchase one bit. People can cry about the slight buzzing all they want. Heck, cars that pass by in my neighborhood are much louder. And I have this thing in my small bedroom!
About the sound, no use in complaining about that. There is no flat panel TV out there with good sound. Get a sound system if that is your gripe. This is what happens when you go slim. Deal with it. You spent this much already, what's another couple hundred for a speaker system?
Buzzing ruins this TV and Samsung unwilling to fix the issue Jul 27, 2010 I bought this TV because I needed something larger and it seemed to be a reasonably priced set with fair color accuracy, that was larger than comparable 55" sets. Fast forward one year and two panels later, and the buzzing issue is real and has left me unlikely to ever purchase another Samsung. I have decent hearing, and I'm not obsessed with perfect performance, but the buzzing is audible all the way up to a volume level of about 30 and literally gives me headaches during prolonged viewing. That is unacceptable for such an expensive TV since NONE of the competing models have a problem this severe. Samsung's explanation - plasmas all buzz like this. NOT true, obviously, since every other plasma I've ever watched did NOT have this issue. So now I'm stuck with a really expensive TV that gives me headaches and subconsciously makes me want to go back to my older, smaller, LCD set (which also has better blacks, by the way). Save your money and your sanity and look elsewhere as the quality control on this set is unacceptably poor. Samsung shouldn't have released it, or they should have done something to address the issue on behalf of the customers experiencing this problem.

Samsung plasma 860 Jun 18, 2010 I have had the samsung 860 plasma for two months and have enjoyed every minute of the tv. The unit has some slight buzzing, and I mean slight. But every plasma tv has that issue. I have the 60g ps3 and the ps3 is much louder than this tv. If you are debating on purchasing this tv, I say get it while the unit is still for sale. I even suggested to my father that he purchase one, and he did. He talks about how much he enjoys the tv everyday. If you are interested in 3d technology, then I say go with the Samsung C8000 series. But if you want a tv with great picture quality at a lower price, then go with the 2009 860 model. Hope this helps with your purchase!

Consumer Reports Says: Buy HDTV at Amazon!
Washington, D.C. (July 2010) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)
The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2009 and June 2010. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its July 2010 issue.)
"Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."
Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com came closest.
