These TVs represent the entry-level models in Sony’s large screen offerings in 2009 and offer the superior resolution and contrast, advanced image processing features, and variety of HD input options available on high-end BRAVIA HDTVs -- all in an affordable package. With three HDMI connections, you can hook up a Sony PlayStation3 entertainment system, Blu-ray Disc player, or any other HDMI-capable equipment and get uncompressed digital video and multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. You also have numerous other HD connection options, including YPbPr Component inputs as well as a PC input for using your laptop or desktop PC with your big-screen HDTV. No matter which HD source you use, the exclusive Sony BRAVIA Engine 2 fully digital video processor ensures that images look sharp and brilliant. With BRAVIA Link compatibility, you can easily expand your high-resolution home theater set-up with optional BRAVIA Wireless Link, BRAVIA DVD Link, or BRAVIA Input Link Modules. And BRAVIA Sync makes controlling everything a snap. Additionally, BRAVIA S-Series HDTVs exceed Energy Star 3.0 requirements by incorporating advanced power saving features, such as Light Sensor technology that adjusts backlight intensity based on ambient room lighting conditions and Dynamic Backlight Control that adjusts backlight intensity based on the brightness of the image on the screen. Utilizing these features can reduce power consumption by up to 60% in a typical home theater environment.

2I'm 68years old male  May 09, 2010
I do not trust Sony's Tech or Customer Service.
A this unit was a refub.
I had plan to use this TV to as PC Monitor.
Any way price was not bad so I ordered.
Sure when I received PC connection was working Video and Audio but, When I switched HDMI port Audio is not working.
I have two other 52" Sony LCD TV thorse ones are works fine.
I hooke UP Antenna, TV works All Channel but channel change time rug is way too lomg than others.
My kitche's Vizio TV channel changes instantly.

Fairly good picture, having trouble getting light and contrast adjusted to my liking, the sound is the worst I have ever heard.

4Nice TV  Apr 29, 2010
I love the TV and I've had it for about a month now. Unfortunately, I don't have a blue-ray player, but the picture comes across great on Netflix through the Wii. The sound is what you'd expect from a typical TV; nothing special. If you want better quality, purchase a home theater set-up... Also, I've noticed that the screen dims during dark scenes (not helpful), but later learned that this is in response to ambient lighting. You can turn this feature off in the eco setting within the menu. Works great now. The stand is rather flimsy and plasticky; I'm only 150 lbs. yet every time I walk by the TV seems to sway. I would recommend getting a wall mount if you can. The only other thing I can think to mention is the appearance. I kind of hate it. I will say I'm very picky, but the bottom portion of the frame is horrible. There is a clear strip that runs partially through the center that serves no aesthetic purpose unless you enjoy looking at cords behind the TV... Overall, I would recommend this TV to anyone. The image quality is superb and it serves as an excellent addition to any room.

1Main Board Failure  Apr 13, 2010
Purchased the TV for the guest room 22 months ago. Therefore,it has been used very sparingly. A recent guest turned on the TV and there was no picture ,only wavy pixels.
Sony sevice was contacted. After being on hold for several minutes,I was instructed to contact a local authorized service center. TV was taken to the center, who called back with a repair estimate. I was told the main board was defective. Total cost to repair=$493.
Called Sony to request out of warranty assistance since the TV has such little usage in less than 2 years. After being passed around for an hour,I was told Sony would not share in the cost of the repair.
After analyzing the situation, Instead of repairing it,purchased a new 40" Samsung.
Very disappointed in the Sony experience. Will never buy another one from Sony.

5KDL-32S5100 LCD TV with Sony blu-ray player  Apr 09, 2010
I have had this TV four days and it has passed all acceptance tests. Dealing with a sub-contractor (Home Theater Store) of the merchant is a bit annoying and would be troublesome if there were damage or defects, but that did not happen. The tests were all run with a new Sony BDPS360 blu-ray player. I bought these products for the up-conversion of my collection of classic, irreplacable, out-of-print dance videos. The results so far are excellent.

The oldest performances (e.g. the American in Paris ballet) look much better, showing much more detail of costumes, backgrounds, and expressions. Minelli reds no longer bleed. The image is somewat distorted; perhaps tinkering with the settings would help this. There is no technical information provided by Sony to help you with this.

The newer dance videos (e.g. Kirov Dances Nijinsky) are breathtaking, better than a live performance in many respects when the camera work is first-rate.

The only Blu-ray disc I have tested (the Robert Downey Jr. Sherlock Holmes) did not show much improvement over the upconverted DVD videos.

The TV and player are very easy to use -- just load the disc and the player takes over the TV and figures out how to play it. It was easy to attach the stand. On the other hand, the setup instructions for the TV are wrong for satellite TV service.

Consumer Reports Says: Buy HDTV at Amazon!

Washington, D.C. (July 2010) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)

The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2009 and June 2010. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its July 2010 issue.)

"
Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."

Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com came closest.
