5Samsung 40 inch to Vizio  May 26, 2010
Well to start it off i had a 40 inch Samsung, but it was only 60hz... The picture quality was great! but recently i just sold it, so i could upgrade to 240hz... All i can say is it really takes alot of getting used to... It really does give it that soap opera feel to it. Not quite accustomed just yet. Also when it comes down to the Black images they are not as dark as i'd hoped for... My Samsung definitely had sharper colors, because of the 60,000 contrast ratio. This only being 50,000. Don't get me wrong! but the the VIZIO 42 inch shows great! I'm just still getting used to the 240hz from 60 hz... HUGE difference! Also i would recommend getting HD channels, because with the standard it looks pretty fuzzy. Great investment though overall! especially if your looking to not spend over $1000!!!

1one big plastic smelling crap  Apr 26, 2010
I purchased the vizio sv421 after hearing all the great reviews and boy was I mislead.I recieved my brand new tv,opened the box and ahhh! that brand new fresh tv smell.I took it to the room of my choice hooked it up plugged it in and turned it on and wallah!! picture looks like crap right out of the box. After making every adjustment known to man, the picture still looked fuzzy and blurry no true image at all. While playing with the picture off and on for hours I started to smell a wierd and strong plastic odor coming from the tv, as stated in previous reviews.I gave it a chance to maybe subside but it didnot so,I decided to box it back up and ship it right back.It sat overnight before shipping it out and I still noticed the plastic smell coming out of the box.I had friends come over to inquire about this great tv and they even said they could smell the plastic stench. I know your not suppose to believe everything you read but, after all the great reviews and ignoring the bad I decided to give this tv a go and Boy was I wrong. For all the positive reviews, these people really need glasses bad and a new nose to boot. I mean, these people actually must work for vizio, trying to market this piece of crap tv.If anyone is reading my review please and I mean please beware of these vizio's

3Inferior HDMI ports  Apr 12, 2010
We purchased this TV as a birthday present for my husband whose birthday happened to be on Superbowl Sunday this year. We love the TV. The picture is insanely beautiful. The sound is fine. Our biggest problem! After only two months all of the HDMI ports (used to watch HD satellite TV and our Blu-ray player) just stopped working! All we get is a blue screen. It is going to be at least another week before someone even comes out to try and fix it. We are all really disappointed that this has happened and that Vizio has no explanation as to why our two month old television would stop working. We are able to watch TV through the AV, but we didn't buy the tv for that. Now we are stuck paying for HD satellite service that we can't even view. i have searched online and apparently this is not something that is rare. We bought this TV because of the glowing reviews in Consumer Reports and on other websites. Vizio has some work to do to get my reviews back to glowing.

4Great TV  Apr 09, 2010
I purchased my TV the end of November and had the impression I would receive it in about a week, not so... The delivery service was terrible, I had to make the calls trying to track it down and find out, where it was at. after a couple weeks of this I called Amazon to cancel it, they told me I could but I would need to pay for the return shipping fee, NOT.... when I haven't received it yet. after a few calls to Amazon they arranged a different carrier to pick it up and deliver it. The last carrier was great, had the TV the next day. Now it's April, and the bottom line, the TV is great, however Amazon needs to spend more time looking for dependable carriers.

5So Far So Good  Apr 02, 2010
Upgraded from a 36" Sony Wega. I did a lot of research and basically settled on the fact that I would be buying a Vizio based on the 240 Hz, the pricing and the reviews. I really wanted to get the sv422xvt because I liked the idea of the internet apps. I waited for the pricing to come down on it and it never did, so I got the sv421xvt from Dell because I had a gift card. As it turns out, someone gave me a Tivo which has the internet apps included with it.

As far as the sv421 is concerned, the HD channels are incredible. There was a little bit of distortion for some of the March Madness games we were watching. We turned the smoothing on high and decreased the sharpness and that helped a little. Still, the image was extremely clear. The sound is okay. Nothing great. I hooked it up to our stereo and it greatly improved the sound. Unfortunately our cable provider still has a large number of analog channels. Some of the channels actually look pretty close to HD, but there are several that look pretty grainy. I think the grainy images are even more apparent because of the difference in the image quality of the HD channels. For anyone that does not receive any HD or digital channels, these HD LCD's might not be the right TV for you.

Delivery went very smoothly. They did not set the TV up for me, just dropped it off. Setting up the TV is fairly easy. Most people should be able to handle it. The biggest problem was moving out our old TV which weighed 150 lbs. So far no plastic smell with the new TV.

Overall I am very pleased with the purchase and would recommend it. I am now trying to decide if I should purchase the extended warranty through Vizio. I also have read good things about the extended warranty that is offered here by Square Trade. I also would like to buy a Blue Ray player. Maybe I will go with a Vizio again.

Consumer Reports Says: Buy HDTV at Amazon!

Washington, D.C. (July 2010) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)

The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2009 and June 2010. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its July 2010 issue.)

"
Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."

Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com came closest.
